Getting started as a seller on Wight Market
If you make something beautiful, unique, or delicious on the Isle of Wight, Wight Market is your new online home. Whether you’re a seasoned maker or just starting your small business journey, setting up a shop is simple, and it’s the perfect way to reach local buyers and beyond. Here’s how to start selling on Wight Market in a few easy steps.
Create your free seller account
Getting started begins with creating your seller profile. Head to WightMarket.com and click “Sell on Wight Market.” You’ll be asked to provide a few details such as your name, contact information, and a shop name, this is your brand, so choose something memorable that reflects your style and values.

You’ll also be able to add a short bio so customers can get to know you. This is your first opportunity to share your story and make a connection, whether you’re a potter in Cowes or a baker in Bembridge, people love to know the face behind the product.
💡 Tip: Your shop name is part of your identity, think about how it will look on labels, packaging, and social media.
Set up your shop profile
Think of your shop profile as your digital storefront, it’s the first impression customers will get, so make it inviting and authentic. Add a profile image that represents your brand, whether that's a logo or a professional-looking photo of yourself at work.
You can also upload a banner image, this wide header space is perfect for showcasing a collection of your products, a behind-the-scenes workspace, or a beautifully styled photo that gives people a feel for what you create.
Don’t forget to write a short shop description. Use this space to explain what you make, what inspires you, and why your products are special. It doesn’t need to be long, just warm, honest, and true to your brand.
Add your first product
Once your shop is set up, it’s time to add your first item for sale. When you click “Add Product,” you’ll be prompted to fill in the key details: a product name, price, description, and photos.
Photos are incredibly important. Aim for bright, clear images taken in natural light. Photograph your item from multiple angles, and try to include one styled photo that shows the product in use. This helps customers visualise the item in their own space.
Choose a relevant category and include tags (keywords) that describe your product, this helps people find you when they search.
📸 Good photography sells, think about clean backgrounds and sharp focus.
Write a product description
Your product description is where you answer the customer’s questions before they ask. Describe what the product is, its size, materials, and colour options. Is it handmade? Eco-friendly? Locally sourced? Highlight what makes it special.
Think about how the item could be used or gifted, help your audience imagine it in their lives. If needed, include care instructions or customisation options. Don’t worry about being “salesy”, just be clear, helpful, and passionate about what you’ve made.
We’ll cover more tips on writing perfect product descriptions in a future blog post, so keep an eye out!
Set your shop policies
Setting clear shop policies gives customers confidence in buying from you. Include details like your typical delivery times, return/refund policy, and any helpful notes such as whether you offer gift wrapping or accept custom orders.
Even if you're just starting out, having these basics in place makes your shop feel more trustworthy and professional.
Share your new shop!
Once your product is live, it’s time to let people know! Share a photo of your product or shop page on Facebook or Instagram and tag @wightmarket so we can help you spread the word. Don’t be shy, let friends, family, and local groups know that you’re open for business.
